Opus Dei

May you seek Christ: may you find Christ: may you love Christ.
(Saint Josemaria, The Way, 382).

Opus Dei takes care of Christian formation programs at Riverview, including evenings of recollection, theology courses from beginners' to advanced level, and sessions of personal spiritual guidance with the chaplain, a Catholic priest of the Opus Dei prelature.

About Opus Dei

Opus Dei is part of the Roman Catholic Church. It promotes awareness of the universal call to holiness among men and women of all walks of life, moving them to lead a life consistent with their faith and to contribute to the evangelization of every sphere of society. In other words, it spreads the message that all have been called by God to seek holiness in and through their daily work, family life and social relations and to make the Gospel known. This very message was at the heart of the Second Vatican Council.

Opus Dei's founder, Saint Josemaria Escriva, was declared a saint by Pope John Paul II on October 6, 2002.

God waits for us every day, [...] in all the immense panorama of work. [...] Understand this well: there is something holy, something divine, hidden in the most ordinary situations, and it is up to each one of you to discover it. [...] Either we learn to find our Lord in ordinary, everyday life, or else we shall never find him. (Saint Josemaria, 1967, Conversations, 114)

Pope John Paul II on Saint Josemaria

From the beginning of his priestly ministry, Bl. Josemaria Escriva put at the very heart of his preaching the truth that all the baptized are called to the fullness of charity and that the most direct way to attain this goal is to be found in the midst of normal daily life. The Lord wants to enter into a loving communion with each one of his children, right in the heart of daily occupations, in the context of everyday life. (January 12, 2002). Read more.

Cardinal Turcotte on Saint Josemaria

Josemaria Escriva found the words and the tone needed to help the men and women of our time to grasp the fact that it is in daily life and through daily life that they must advance towards sanctity. It is really useless to look elsewhere and useless to flee from daily and professional life. It is not surprising therefore that Msgr. Escriva has had, and continues to have, a great influence. His teaching constitutes a happy return to the very sources that give value to the simplest aspects of human life and give earthly realities their real value. (June 26, 1990)
