Big Picture Seminar
Summer session: July 17-23, 2010 in Ottawa
The summer session includes daily guided visits to the historical sites, daily sports and other open air activities.
Typical schedule:
- 9:30 big picture seminar
- 12:30 lunch outdoors on the way to destination of the day
- 14:00 visit to a historical site
- 16:30 sports outside Parkhill (soccer, softball, etc.)
- 18:00 supper
- after supper: free time, more sports, movie and cine-forum, talent show, etc.
Our lodgings will be one block away from Strathcona Park, on Goulburn Avenue immediately south of Laurier.
The cost for the summer session is $390, inclusive of full room and board in Ottawa, all activities and transportation while in Ottawa.

For students in Secondary 3 and above
Riverview's Big Picture Seminar is designed to help young men develop a clear vision of their future starting now. With the advice and sound direction they receive in the seminar, these students will learn to see their high school years (their studies, athletics, summer jobs, leisure time, etc.) as an opportunity to develop the personal attributes necessary for greater success throughout their lives.
The purpose of the seminar is two-fold: to help young men form high ideals, realistic goals, and practical plans for meeting the challenges awaiting them in the future, and to pass on practical advice for succeeding academically, choosing career paths and becoming effective leaders in the workplace and in society.
Now is the time to start learning what it takes to build a successful future to succeed as professionals and family men, and as informed, effective citizens.
Seminar topics include:
- Building Personal Strengths integrity, conscience, concentration, effective use of time, and social graces
- Making Career Choices directing studies and pre-professional activities as well as choosing a professional career
- Planning Ahead thinking about university admission
- The Power of Reading learning why reading is important and what books to read, building habits of a discriminating reader
- Expanding the Mind developing an appreciation for great artistic and intellectual achievements
- Defining Personal Values developing character and maturity, seeing setbacks as opportunities to grow and better discern one's path in life
- Living with Integrity learning to always act in consonance with one's principles and faith
- Understanding Business Ethics becoming a team player
- Learning the reasons behind Etiquette introducing notions of business etiquette and good manners
- Becoming a Role Model discussing what it takes to be a good father, a good family man
